Needle Arts: Smocking
We’ve suggested before that you consider looking at smocking charts as inspiration for your knitting. Unlike in the KnitWorld, though, the hand smocking world (both English and picture smocking styles) seems to be rather behind in free web content availability. I know this has hampered everyone’s consideration of technique adaptation, not to mention keeping you from the joy that can be smocking itself.
Well now I have found one web page with not only rather extensive tutorials (borrowed with full permission from the much-adored Country Bumpkin publisher and editor-in-chief Margie Bauer), but even a few free smocking plates available for your (non-commercial) use. Please run right over to the smocking introduction page.
If, as is likely, that’s not nearly enough, follow on to Country Bumpkin! And if in the meanwhile you need a bit of a knitting content fix, check out their incredible knitting book.
