Jodi Green’s Knitting Art

Anything long, relatively narrow, and flexible can be used as yarn. Even…speaker wire? Jodi Green, the knitwear designer behind such popular patterns as the Ribs and Lace Tank (Spring 2007 Interweave Knits), Gatsby Girl Pullover (Fall 2006 IK), and Durrow (October 2005 Magknits) as well as many other designs, is also a studio artist currently working on an MFA in textile art. The speaker wire dress above was a piece in her BFA graduation installation. One of her current works involves printing self-portraits on Japanese paper, cutting the paper into strips, and spinning it on a spinning wheel (below). The paper yarn will later be plied with handspun wool and knitted.

You can follow this and other artwork in progress, plus see galleries of past work, original designs, and knitting projects on her website. Or, pick up an amazing print, sketchbook, or wearable in her etsy shop, including these lithographs made with bits of knitted fabric.
